This is overlain by the Telemann Formation composed of very low-Ti basalts and pyroclastic deposits with an estimated age of 3.6 + or - 0.2 b.y. and an estimated volume of about 2.1 x 10 to the 5th cu km. The Repsold Formation is composed of high-Ti basalts and pyroclastic deposits with an estimated age of 3.75 + or - 0.05 b.y. The basaltic fill of Oceanus Procellarum has been formally subdivided into four lithostratigraphic formations: The Repsold Formation, the Telemann Formation, the Hermann Formation, and the Sharp Formation. Stratigraphy of Oceanus Procellarum basalts - Sources and styles of emplacement We will also present analysis on elevation, rock abundance and other engineering parameters of importance to landing safety. We present stratigraphical and compositional study of northern Oceanus Procellarum based on Kaguya and Chang'e 2 multispectral and image data. In addition, Rima Sharp (46.7°N 50.5°W), a 107 km long, approximate 1 km wide rille, winds through this region. Samples from Mons Rümker would provide information on its composition, eruption style, rheological properties, and evolution. Previous modeling suggests low effusion rates and varied lava eruption temperatures and varied degrees of crystallization for these domes. Mons Rümker, a large (65 km diameter) volcanic edifice centered at 40.8°N 58.1°W, consists of multiple mare domes.

This region is characterized by relatively young basaltic lavas, estimated at approximately 2.5-3.75 Ga, thus may potentially yield information on mare evolution and cratering rate not retrievable from Apollo and Lunar samples. We evaluate the science potential of northern Oceanus Procellarum as a candidate site for future Chang'e sample return mission.
